  • The video above shows how to replace blown fuses in the interior fuse box of your 2002 Mitsubishi Galant in addition to the fuse panel diagram location. Electrical components such as your map light, radio, heated seats, high beams, power windows all have fuses and if they suddenly stop working, chances are you have a fuse that has blown out. If your Galant is experiencing electrical problems, you should always check the fuses first, because they are relatively easy to check and cheap to change. Some Mitsubishis have multiple interior fuse boxes including in the trunk - the video above will show you where the interior fuse box of your 2002 Galant is located. If your Galant has many options like a sunroof, navigation, heated seats, etc, the more fuses it has. Some components may have multiple fuses, so make sure you check all of the fuses that are linked to the component in question.

If you need to replace a blown fuse in your Galant, make sure you replace it with one that has the same amperage as the blown fuse. If checking and replacing the fuse for the component in question doesn't work, we recommend seeking assistance from a trusted professional mechanic. They should be able to figure out if the component needs to be replaced or if there is a short or some other problem with your Galant.

I have a 2002 Mitsubishi Galant 2.0L engine. At idle it fires at 11-13 degrees btdc it should fire at 5 degrees btdc +or- 3 degrees. All timing marks are right on. I want the car to run right before I change the water pump and timing belts. I have already put in new plugs, coils wires and sensors (crank and cam) there is no adjustment for these sensors. Any ideas to help?

  • The video above shows you to replace the headlight in your 2002 Mitsubishi Galant. Headlights grow dimmer by up to 20% over time and eventually burn out - for this reason, we recommend changing your headlights in pairs. Changing both headlight bulbs on your Galant at the same time will allow both bulbs to have the same intensity and prevent the new headlight bulb from appearing brighter than the bulb on the opposite side. In some Mitsubishis, the highbeam is the same bulb as the headlight and it is possible for the highbeam to work, but the headlight be burnt out even if they are the same bulb (and vise versa). Some Mitsubishis have high intensity discharge headlights, sometimes referred to as xenon lights. These bulbs have a very high voltage that runs through them, even if the battery is disconnected. If your Galant has this type of bulb, we do not recommend that you attempt to change it yourself.

When you change the headlight on your Galant, it is important to not touch the glass part of the bulb with your fingers because the oil from your fingertips will cause that part of the bulb to burn hotter, which significantly shortens the life of the bulb.

02 Mitsubishi Galant Sounds like a diesel!

**UPDATE 08 May 2013: SOLVED! I had installed one of the two rocker arm bars 180 degrees upside down depriving all (8) lash adjusters of oil!! All (8) were ruined! I re-used the perfectly good original ones and the engine now sounds like it is supposed to!

Repaired my 2002 Mitsubishi Galant DE 110k miles 4 cylinder and now it's really loud! I have had several mechanic type people tell me they think my valves need adjustment but there are no adjustments for the 4 cylinder 2002 Galant engine according to the car repair manual I used to fix the car. I bought the car brand new in 2002 and drove it off the lot myself. I don't want to get rid of this car but it is just so loud it's embarrassing. The manual does say to replace the camshaft, the rocker arm assembly, the lash adjusters when you replace the valves, all at the same time. To save cost I didn't do that. I Replaced the following items: Timing Belt, Balance Shaft Timing Belt, Timing Belt Tensioner, Power Steering Belt Tensioner, Head Gasket Kit, Water Pump, All Accessory Belts, All (8) Intake Valves, All (8) Exhaust Valves, All (16) Valve Lash Adjusters, a New Spark Plug Boot Set, and a set of plugs. Compression on all four cylinders was right around 154 lbs on all four cylinders before and after I removed the head, put the valves in myself, then put the head back on. The pistons and the combustion walls looked brand new. There were no scratches or scoring. Any ideas?
05 May 2013 Update: Checked the lash adjusters. Originally I had installed them correctly, then got bad information, took them out and reversed them. Now that I know for sure how they are supposed to be installed (hole in the rocker arm - you cant see the hole) I just checked and found them to be upside down! I just put the lash adjusters back the original way I had installed them. The engine is still loud though.
