The 1995 Mercury Mystique debuts on the market as a compact sedan that’s closely related to the Ford Contour, which evolved from the older Ford Mondeo. It boasts great handling and a smooth, quiet ride quality, all at a very reasonable price. It’s available in two trim options: the entry-level GS, and the more features-loaded LS. Both models have an available ""sport"" option. Compared to many other sedans of this class and year, it comes very well equipped. It’s also been favorably compared to European cars, thanks to its nimble handling.

My daughter was driving her 1995 Mercury Mystique on the freeway, when it suddenly began to slow down...not sputtering like it was not getting fuel, but a continuous slowing down despite her flooring the glass pedal. At the same time, her brakes hardened and could barely stop the car, then steam started shooting out from underneath the hood, red engine lights came on...she pulled over, engine in idle and still running, when she turned the key and turned the engine off. After a tow truck came, it was determined the car had to be towed as it would not start after replacing water in the radiator, as there was a strong smell of anti-freeze..

How can all 3 things suddenly happen at once? Brakes stiffening, Radiator steaming, and no fuel? (yes, there is over 1/4 tank left)

It sits in my garage now, and so far I have found no evidense of fuel being pumped in the carburator with the gas depressed (explaines why she was slowing to a stop) but cannot figure out why. If I poured fuel in the carb, it should stand to reason that the car should strart briefly correct? Is there a fuse that controls the pump if it is fuel injected? It all happened so quick according to her...

Any ideas where to begin? THANK YOU!!!!
