  • The 1998 Mitsubishi Mirage is available with two engine options and two transmissions. The first option is a 1.5-liter overhead cam four-cylinder engine that delivers 92 horsepower and 93 lb-ft of torque. The second engine option is a 1.8-liter straight-four engine that delivers 113 horsepower and 116 lb-ft of torque. The two transmission options are a five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic transmission. The Mirage is surprisingly easy to drive and capable of riding through different terrains. The drivability of the 1998 Mitsubishi Mirage can be attributed to a number of factors, including the simple and effective dashboard design, comfortable driving positions, well-placed controls, good visibility, and competitive passenger and cargo space. The ride quality of the 1998 Mitsubishi Mirage is good but not exceptional. It fares particularly well on highways. However, the ride may get a little choppy when the car is being driven through freeway expansion joints or on rough surfaces.

The 1998 Mitsubishi Mirage sedan is expectedly more spacious than the coupe version and entry and exit is also easier in the four-door version. The sedan also offers more space in its rear bench than the coupe. Despite the differences in rear space, legroom is only adequate at best. If the front seats are pushed back for a taller occupant, the rear bench becomes cramped and uncomfortable. All models of the 1998 Mitsubishi Mirage offer a decent amount of trunk space. The trunk itself is reasonably sized, and the flat floor helps in getting the most out of the available space.

1998 Mitsubishi Mirage - Autotrader

Vehicle: 1998 Mitsubishi Mirage Have had my 98 for about 8 yrs. Averaged 34 mpg, and have seen 45 mpg on straight highway driving. Put on a cold air intake and now it sounds more throaty. Very reliable. Never been in the shop. Lots of room to work on engine. (it's smaller than some motorcycles engines). I always talk about the mileage. Why get a hybrid, is what I Wonder.
