The 1999 Toyota Camry Solara is roomy for a coupe, and it seats five with two comfortably in the front and is a bit of a squeeze for three adults in the back. Getting in and out of the backseats can be difficult. The layout is attractive and the seats are comfortable. The 135-hp, 2.2-liter four-cylinder on the 1999 Toyota Camry Solara base model can struggle while passing at high speeds and merging into fast traffic but otherwise performs moderately well. The larger 200-hp, 3.0-liter V-6 is a big improvement and drivers won’t have any problems as far as power. Both models accelerate smoothly with either a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual. The ride is very comfortable on most roads, and it handles moderately well.
The 1999 Toyota Camry Solara receives safety features that include standard dual front impact airbags, optional dual front side-impact airbags for all models, optional traction control on the SLE, standard ABS brakes on the SE and SLE and this is optional on the base model.
The 1999 Toyota Camry Solara features a longer body for a coupe model with a profile similar to many sedans. A spoiler is optional on the SE and the SLE models, power mirrors are standard, and it was available in a range of colors.
