  • If you car is not starting or stalling and you are about to pull your hair out, try a new rotor and a new cap, even if the ones in the car are very recent. It just might do it, and it is a cheap fix.

The steering lock mechanism is faulty and will not let the car start. The vehicle was stationary where failure occurred. I've done research on this problem and it appears Nissan extended the warranty for this part but never issued a recall so that it could be fixed. It is a safety issue that needs to be taken care of by Nissan. People are being stranded because their car will not start but seems no one knows about the potential problem until they are stranded. This is an issue that Nissan has admitted is a manufacturing problem. I for one will never buy a Nissan again because of the poor customer service. Things break, and parts fail, but this particular issue is very very common on 2009-2011 models.

  • Many have found that automatic-equipped cars would not start in Park, but start in Neutral. Bill Watson suggested that the shifter linkage might be out of adjustment, veryslightly.

My car would not start after I parked it on a city street, I was stranded at night! after thankfully being able to safely get a ride and leaving my car, I had to go back to my car the next day. I had changed the key battery thinking that could be reason, but the car still would not start. I had to call a tow company to bring my car to a Nissan dealership. I learned that there had been an extended warranty for 2009 Altimas, because the electronic steering column lock had failed. I never was notified and had no choice but to have it fixed. This was a baffling and frightening experience and I was lucky that I was not stranded in the middle of nowhere!.

Re: Car Not Starting or Making Noise Battery is GOOD Sign In

The power distribution box shown in one of your pics has 'maxi' fuses. Be sure to check all of them. Being a '96+, I'm not sure if Honda was still using the large main power fuses or not, but should be easy to tell by looking.

Try disconnecting the, which can cause a car to not start without setting any fault codes! If you disconnect it completely, the car may start, in which case it is definitely the MAP sensor.

Car Not Starting? Repair Your Engine Yourself With The Pros

I get into the car place the key in the ignition and the car doesn’t start. I charge my new battery and the car starts I then hear a rattling sound as though something is about to fall out. I get to my destination and when I get back into my car my car will not start without another charge. Could it be my alternator?
