Yay! You're now following roush mufflers in your .

I really think the Roush muffler sound profile was made around factory exhaust setups except for the axle back.

  • Personally, I really think the Roush muffler sound profile was made around factory exhaust setups except for the axle back. They just get so out of control once you start playing with stuff. Long tubes, high flow cats, and Borla Touring. Phew...now THAT's a boner inspiring sound...

I hope this better explains my "muted" comment on the shoutbox lol It just "sounds" that way although I'm sure it flow just as well as the Roush

I had roush muffs and didn't stay with them either , the rasp and volume killed it for me . Below 4000 rpm they were glorious but after that is when they sucked....for me at least

Nice write-up bskouby! Great pics, as well ... been looking for something like this. And the kit is very friendly in that the muffler can easily be changed out if you want to chnage the sound with another muffler, or even add a true 3" resonator inline with the Roush muffler.

This is my next mod, so, thanks for taking the time to post this.

Put it on after work today!!

The long pipe had to be cut down to fit.

This is the stock resonator next to the Roush muffler.

The Roush mufflers are an open chamber muffler. That's why they're so blasted loud. Think of a chambered muffler like the GT500's but straight through and the chambers are basically opened up rather than closed off by a muffler housing. Another way to think about it, cut a chambered muffler in half the to make a "hamburger" and then "fold" over the muffler from one end to the other in a straight through way. See why it's so loud?

I received this Roush axle back exhaust system in a timely manner from American muscle. They were very well packaged and emerged from the wrappings complete, and in flawless condition. I was unable to follow the install instructions for my 2012 GT because I didn't have a lift. This posed no problem though, they were easy to install by lying on the ground under the back valance of the vehicle without using a jack. If you install this way, you will need to spray lube (WD40) the bolts and all rubber mountings where the muffler rails slide through the rubber hangers. You will also need to loosen the forward hanger bolts L and R side and remove the aft hanger bolts L and R side. After doing this, loosen and spread the exhaust couplers R and L side. The factory mufflers will now be easier to remove by pushing up at the Hpipe exhaust joint, and pulling the mufflers down and forward, while sliding the hanger rails out of the forward rubber hangers. Just reverse this process for the install of the Roush mufflers, they are smaller and much lighter than the factory axle backs, and install much easier than the removal of the factory mufflers. After I had installed the Roush's, the 1st start up was amazing, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL SOUND! They really roar under acceleration, and are much louder outside the car than inside, they are almost unheard inside the car at freeway speeds. No drone inside the car at highway speeds but touch that throttle and WOW! You're in a Daytona 500 car, ACOUSTIC PERFECTION! Although these are 50 state legal, I would advise that you don't get on it when a police cruiser is nearby, no sense in having to prove they're legal. Don't waste your money on anything else, these Roush axle backs are highly polished, top shelf stuff. If you liked the sound of that Mustang in the Steve M'Queen movie, Bullitt, then you are really going to like your GT on Roush sound steroids. Thank you Roush, and American Muscle, a truly amazing product.
