  • Most of today's vehicles use pulleys to assist in belt routing and tensioning within the accessory drive system. A/C compressors, alternators, power steering pumps, and water pumps are aided by the function of the pulleys. In spite of the fact that idler and tensioner pulleys are similar in many ways, they have a significant difference. The idler pulley is a component that controls the routing of the belt, while the tensioner pulley is a spring-loaded part that holds the belt tight. If you are looking for a quality idler/tensioner pulley, Hayden is the way to go. This product is made of steel and thermoplastic to provide long service life and superior dampening and feature high-grade bearings that are engineered to withstand high operating temperatures. Designed specifically for your vehicle, the idler/tensioner pulley will fit and function just like the part from the dealer, so your vehicle will operate as it should or even better. Why pay more at the dealer or risk getting the wrong part at the chain store, when you can get the right product at a reasonable price from Hayden.

Tension pulley broke off, lost somewhere on the side of the road. I bought a new one and it doesn't fit. Every auto parts store wants to sell me the same one. After talking to a guy out of Ohio, who said he could ship me the right one, I got that and it is the same one the other stores are offering. The problem is, the tension pulley bolts into a bracket, which is mounted to the block, once mounted in place the pulley is on the left side of the mount, it has to be on the right side. Where can I find a tension pulley that attaches to the bracket, with the pulley itself on the right side of the "open spring" tensioner?

Hayden® - Chevy Silverado 2009-2011 Idler / Tensioner Pulley

Early automobiles used adjustable engine accessories to tighten the fan belt, and a belt tension pulley was not required in the belt system. Modern vehicles use a single, flat serpentine-style fan belt with no adjustable engine components. This mandates the use of a belt tension pulley in order to keep the belt tight as well as to react to belt stretch and aging. By placing the pulley on a spring-loaded bracket, the belt can continually be adjusted, as it might become stretched and loose. The spring will ensure the maximum amount of pressure is placed on the belt at all times.
